All ears for Rondo Vocal

18th house concert at the Levana School

Singing is fun and keeps you young. This was exactly the impression conveyed by the singers of the acapella quintet Rondo Vocal, who took time out on Friday morning to present a varied house concert to the school community of the Levana School, the special school with a focus on holistic and motor development in the district of Ahrweiler. The entrance hall was transformed into a concert hall and head teacher Gerd Jung welcomed the five singers, who are very well known in the region and also fill much larger halls at their concerts. The pupils were asked to close their eyes and listen to the music. They realized that the musicians do everything with their mouths and don't need any instruments. The five singers introduced themselves musically to their audience with their rondo opener "Wir grüßen euch alle", composed by Andreas Dietl: Ingo Krämer and Franz-Josef "Jö" Küls, bass, Detlef "Det" Wronka, tenor and bass, Hajo Hecker and Rolf Blechschmidt, tenor. They then gave the attentive audience a colorful insight into their repertoire, which encompassed numerous musical styles. The school community listened attentively to the contemplative Hallelujah in memory of Leonard Cohen, but then also enjoyed more upbeat pieces such as Lollipop, The Lion sleeps tonight, Hello Mary Lou and Barbara Ann, which invited the audience to actively sing and clap along. Dialect songs, such as "In unserm Veedel" by the Bläck Fööss, were also well received. The pupils, aged between 6 and 19, were amazed at the wide range of voices of the five dedicated singers, who produced both very high and very, very low notes. There was even a birthday serenade for one pupil who was celebrating his 18th birthday that day. "Sandman, dear Sandman" was planned as the final song, but the enthusiastic audience would not let the quintet singers go without an encore. The ensemble members then sang "Wir hatten eine gute Zeit" by the Wise Guys without microphones, mingling with the audience and filling the entrance hall of the school with their trained voices, even unplugged.

The school community expressed their thanks and appreciation for the impressive concert with prolonged applause. Principal Gerd Jung also thanked Rondo Vocal and presented the group, assisted by two pupils, with a small gift.

Afterwards, individual pupils approached the singers on their own initiative and thanked them personally for the wonderful concert.
