Who can find the thickest tuber?

Pupils in Lower Level 4 at the Levana School with a focus on holistic and motor development in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler experienced an eventful week on the theme of the potato. To get them in the mood, they approached the topic of the potato together with their teachers in a playful and musical way by acting out the fairy tale of the potato king with figures they had made themselves and singing the song of the potato. After this theoretical preparation, their teacher Berthold Schmickler invited them to Kirchdaun to gain practical experience in the potato field. The group conquered the field with a fun tractor ride and first watched carefully as potatoes were expertly sorted out. Then the time had come and the children were given the task of finding the thickest tuber, the potato king. They collected potatoes with great enthusiasm, sorted them according to size and compared them, but were unable to find a clear winner and ultimately crowned Mr. Schmickler the Potato King.
The following day, the children peeled and cooked the potatoes they had harvested themselves at school under supervision. They also harvested fresh herbs from the school's own raised bed and prepared a delicious herb quark. All of this resulted in a delicious meal that the pupils and teachers of Lower School 4 ate together, bringing an interesting, educational week to a close with lots of fun and enjoyment.
